North Korea tested Delphi cruise missiles again

This is the third time in less than a week that Pyongyang has tested cruise missiles. The missiles were fired around 7 a.m. local time, the General Staff said.

South Korean and US intelligence agencies have been closely monitoring the situation and analyzing the details of the incident.

The launch of the cruise missiles comes amid rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula and follows Pyongyang’s launch of cruise missiles off its eastern coast on Sunday.

Sunday’s accident was a test of a new submarine-launched cruise missile (SLCM) called Pulhwasal-3-31, and state leader Kim Jong Un oversaw the test, North Korean state media KCNA reported Monday . Last week’s missiles were also Pulhwasal-3-31, KCNA said, adding that they were strategic missiles, which usually refers to nuclear weapons.

South Korea South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said last week they believed the launch of the Pulhwasal-3-31 was to test an improvement in the capabilities of existing missiles.

Earlier this month, Kim declared an end to his previous goal of reunifying Korea and called South Korea his “main enemy.” The event has raised concerns that North Korea is preparing for war.

South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol told his Cabinet this month that if North Korea staged a provocation, South Korea would respond “many times stronger.”
