NOTICE TO TAIWAN ⟩ Xi talked about China’s solid reunification in his New Year speech

The reunification of Taiwan and China is a historical inevitability, Xi said in a speech broadcast on state television, writes the Financial Times.

“All Chinese people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait should be bound by the understanding of a common goal and share the glory of the renewal of the Chinese nation,” state news agency Xinhua reported.

China considers Taiwan a part of its territory, which will sooner or later be reunited with the motherland, resorting, if necessary, to force.

In recent years, Beijing has increased military pressure on Taipei, conducting two major military exercises while Taiwan’s leaders have met with senior U.S. officials.

Taiwan’s presidential elections will be held in two weeks, where, according to political observers, Taipei’s future relations with Beijing, which have become increasingly belligerent, will be at stake.
