Two-time Olympic biathlon champion Hanna Öberg had to spend this Christmas in isolation due to illness.
On Christmas Eve the parents of Hanna and Elvira Öberg drove almost seven hours from Pitea to Östersund to spend the holiday with their daughters, but Hanna fell ill and spent the evening separated from the others in the basement with her parents’ dogs parents.
Hanna’s life partner Martin Ponsiluoma, ninth overall in the MK series, also spent Christmas with the Öbergs. “Martin left me some food on the basement stairs. We ate separately, but then we gathered outside and exchanged gifts,” Öberg told the Vinterpasset podcast.
“I don’t have any serious symptoms, but I’m not yet healthy enough to start training. Time is running out and I’m a bit disappointed,” added Öberg 4.-7. on the MK stage in Oberhof, Germany, until January.
Öberg stood on the MK podium for the first time this season at the previous stage in Lenzerheide, where he finished third behind Elvira in the joint start race.
