Kimila “Kim” Basinger is the third of five children born to jazz musician Don Basinger and his wife Ann. Father Don spent his evenings on the stages of smoky clubs and taverns. Mother Ann was involved in synchronized swimming and thanks to this she also appeared in feature films. He wasn’t good enough to get into some of the water fairy episodes of the James Bond film, but the spirit of performance ran strong in the family.
So it’s no wonder that the beautiful Kim was brought into the ballet circle early. She won a pageant in her home state of Georgia at age 17 and was immediately in the spotlight. A modeling agency offered her a lucrative contract, and what else could a young girl lack? Kim was so intelligent and ambitious that while she worked as a photo model in New York, she began studying various courses to become both an actress and a singer. A smart approach, because a modeling career is fleeting.
