“Time of tension. It kept the spirit alive,” says Peeter Tuur, describing the weeks in which Sauna people collected signatures and gave explanations to politicians while standing in front of the beloved immersion temple. More than 400 signatures were collected to maintain the sauna: “I couldn’t have done this sauna revolution alone,” says Tuur. “Helmen Kütt, Helir-Valdor Seeder and Gert Elmaste helped me a lot with advice and strength.”
Peeter Tuur has not met all the signatories because half of them are women. Thursday is women’s sauna day. “I haven’t even met all the men, because when I go to the sauna on Friday, several people have already been through the sauna before me,” says Tuur and adds that he doesn’t even know the names of all the sauna users. “In the sauna, of course, we talk, but we don’t ask for our name and social security number at the same time. We can talk about ourselves that way.”
