If the kitchen is integrated into the living room or vice versa, the colors used in both areas should match each other. Furniture in natural colors is suitable to complement the overall interior, while wood and other wooden elements could be used to create contrast and add warmth.
“Light colors make the room visually larger, so they are suitable for small rooms. At the same time, when choosing them, you should also think about whether and what accent could complement the room. For this, for example, a lighter lamp can be used special or open shelves, which would be both practical and decorative. Dry ingredients stored in glass jars on the shelves can be both an accessory and a decorative element. Even the most frequently used items, such as cups and bowls, so you always have them at hand when needed. At the same time they also function as an interior element. A dark wooden worktop can also be an accent in a light interior. When using wood, you should stick to one shade and don’t mix different shades of wood,” advises Castro.
Neat drawers and shelves allow you to store more things in the kitchen
Small kitchens need intelligent solutions to make the most of the space. It is not always possible to change the dimensions of the kitchen, but you can find other solutions to create more space: adding additional furniture, shelves, trolleys, hooks, accessory trees and organizing the inside of the shelves and drawers.
Very often in the kitchen the wall space between the worktop and the cabinet remains unused. “By using several accessory trees with hooks, magnetic knife holders, or adding open shelves, you can keep your countertop clean and store condiments, cups or cutlery on the wall instead,” advises the interior designer.
The interior designer recommends keeping the most used things in drawers so that they are easily accessible. On the upper shelves, however, there are objects needed after cooking, such as crockery and serving cutlery, glasses and cups. “If your kitchen space is limited and clean dishes take up too much space on the countertop while drying, a dish dryer in the cupboard is the perfect solution. Use a dish dryer to dry dishes by adding the top shelves to the cabinet, freeing up space on the worktop. The tray collects the water that drips from the dishes and can be easily emptied by removing it from the cabinet and pouring the water into the sink”, suggests Castro.
