PHOTO | EKRE Board Statement: It is necessary to show public resistance to the government’s forceful policy

According to the board, under the leadership of Kaja Kallas, Estonia’s economic recession is already for the second year the largest in the euro area, and prices have increased by a third during Kallas’ tenure. According to the Council, the number of people living in absolute poverty has increased by two and a half times, or by almost 50,000 people. The vacancies are 13 times lower than those of the unemployed. According to the Council, the last time a worse situation occurred was in the autumn of 2010, during a major crisis.

“There is no doubt that after the tax increase, the situation in the Estonian economy will worsen further: companies will close their doors, unemployment will increase, prices will increase and the number of people in need of help will increase. The alliance of government has responded to efforts by opposition parties in the Riigikogu to prevent developments that damage the future of the Estonian state with a policy of force that excludes compromise. A law on hate speech is on the way, with the government essentially imposing state censorship, allowing only a particular ideology to be promoted and dissidents to be persecuted and silenced. The ruling coalition is steering Estonia from parliamentary democracy to autocracy with a firm hand, leaving the Riigikogu only a decorative role and excluding the opposition from the political process,” reads the EKRE board statement.

The Council draws attention to the fact that the coalition formed by the Reform Party, Estonia 200 and SDE is no longer legitimate in the eyes of voters, since according to the latest opinion polls only a third of voters support all parties in power.

“For most citizens the government’s policy is unacceptable.” According to EKRE advice, the pressure on the coalition and the government must continue to force them to take into account the opposition of society and the opposition representing a broad basis,” the board writes.

“If the other opposition parties in the Riigikogu, the Center Party and Isamaa, decide to transform themselves into a so-called tamed and so-called good opposition, in the hope of making deals with the government, they will disappoint both their voters and a large part of the Estonian people. “

EKRE is of the opinion that all tax increases implemented and planned during the composition of this Riigikogu should be cancelled. They believe that in the event of a crisis the state should not raise taxes or make the plight of residents and businesses even more difficult.

“To achieve a balanced budget it is necessary to review expenses that were not established in the elections and for which there is no direct need. The income tax reform must also be canceled or postponed as planned. Cuts must be made at the expense of the bloated public sector, not at the expense of children. Family allowances must be increased to the previous level and the concept of marriage must be put to a referendum,” the note reads.

The Council’s statement states that a democratic and future-oriented policy that cares about the well-being of its people is possible, but for this the incompetent, unjust and illegitimate force policy of the current government must be stopped by the collective power of the people. . “We call on the population, including trade unions and NGOs, to use all legal means – public letters, petitions, campaigns, demonstrations and strikes – to prevent the government from implementing its decisions. We do not allow the Reform Party government to do any further damage to Estonia!”

The EKRE council consists of the party’s honorary president, president and vice presidents, members of the party’s parliament, council members elected at the congress, presidents of associations, and presidents of provincial and city associations. Upon mandate of the provincial and city associations, the council also includes one representative for every 300 members.
