PHOTO | The Defense Association recognized the best volunteers of the year

The commander of the Defense Association, Major General Ilmar Tamm, said at the awards ceremony that choosing the best was not an easy task, as there are many exemplary volunteers in the organization. He also stressed the importance of a supportive family in voluntary national defense.

The defensive ally of the year is Sergeant Pirko Palu from Pärnumaa Chess. Sergeant Palu joined the Defense League in 2014. He is a section leader and main training instructor of the Pärnu Chessboard Rae Group and the Pärnu City Defense Unit. He manages renowned companies in the city of Pärnu on a daily basis. His comrades in arms were able to use the premises of Pirko’s company for their training.

The Women’s Defender of the Year is Anna-Liisa Kerna Naiskodukaitse from Tartu District. Kerna has been a member of Naiskodukaitse for 11 years and is well known in the district as an organizational training and first aid instructor. She has served as ward chairwoman and currently contributes to the ward review committee. In addition to working in women’s home protection, she completed her studies at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Tartu and subsequently a specialization in pediatric infectious diseases.

The title of Housewife of the Year went to Karoliina Kets from Põlva district, who according to her colleagues was a young woman with good leadership qualities.

The Young Eagle of the Year is Allen Larin of Harju chess, who shows activity both by participating in camps and organizing them.

Kaisa Meus, leader of the Tartu District Home Girls, and Reimo Reimer, leader of the Lääne Young Chess Eagles, were recognized as the best youth leaders.

The titles of the best volunteers of the year were presented by the commander of the Defense League, Major General Ilmar Tamm, the Minister of Defense Hanno Pevkur, the head of the Defense Forces, General Martin Herem, and the leaders of women’s and volunteer organizations youth teams of the Defense League.

The Defense League recognized its best of the year for the 14th time, this time, and all members of the Defense League from all over Estonia could nominate candidates.
