Ergo Soosaar, operations director of the eastern prefecture, said that 14 Moldovan citizens, five Russians, one Serb and one Tajik were prevented from entering the country at the Narva border crossing last night.

“The reasons for the suspension were that the persons did not have the appropriate documents to enter the country, had provided unclear statements about the purpose of the trip or during the interview it had been established that the person could pose a threat to public order or security of our country. An entry ban was established for foreigners and they were sent back to Russia,” Soosaar said.

Soosaar added that border traffic has increased slightly during the current holiday period and people wanting to leave the country should take into account that due to the increased number of border crossings, it may take a little longer than usual . “In addition to those who travel out of the country for holidays to visit loved ones, it must also be taken into account that the Finnish border crossings are still closed, i.e. those who previously did so in Finland through our border crossing will also cross the border “, he said.

In general, according to Soosaare, the situation at the Narva border crossing is currently stable, but the situation is closely monitored and the police are ready to respond to dangerous situations.

RusDelfi writes how a long queue usually forms when the buses arrive. Many people choose to walk and go from Ivangorod to St. Petersburg by taxi or minibus.

Most of the people in line are carrying suitcases: some are traveling to Russia to visit friends and relatives during the holidays, others entered the European Union through Finland when the country temporarily opened the border and are now returning home in the round.

Estonia has not closed its eastern border

In November, several dozen immigrants attempted to cross the Estonian border, according to police, their activities were organized by the Russian Federation. “We prevented these people from crossing the border and did not allow them to enter Estonia. The Russian authorities are using these people as part of a migration attack and, if the situation were to escalate, the situation could jeopardize the work of the post border,” Eerik Purgel, head of the Ida Prefecture border guard, said at the time.

The Russian Federation also organized a migration attack on the Finnish border, but the number of immigrants was many times higher than that of Estonia. At the end of November the Finns closed for two weeks all border crossings on the eastern border. When the border was opened, the migratory attack has regained momentum and the Finnish government has decided to close border crossings until January 14th. Estonia did not follow the example of its neighbors and the Narva border crossing remained open to this day.
