Piret Jaaks wrote the novel Hedvig Büllist

On Thursday, Piret Jaaks, a writer related to Haapsalu, will present his first novel “Daughters of Heaven”, whose protagonist is the missionary Anna Hedwig Büll from Haapsalu, in the Pagu bookshop in Haapsalu.

This year’s novel, which won third prize in the Estonian Writers’ Union novel competition, is based on the life story of Anna Hedwig Büll (1887–1981), an Estonian missionary of Baltic German origin. A young missionary is sent to an orphanage in the city of Marashi, where the tragic events we now know as the Armenian Genocide begin to unfold before his eyes. Step by step, connecting fragments of the history of Estonia, Europe and the Middle East, the story of the greatness of the human soul opens before us.
