Police fined five participants in the Palestinian support rally

The police explained that they had removed a total of five people from the demonstration and had initiated proceedings against them for minor crimes under article 151’1 of the penal code, which concerns the support and justification of an international crime.

On December 5, decisions were made on the misdemeanor cases and fines were imposed.

Police did not disclose the amount of the fines because the decisions have not yet come into force. The decision can be appealed to court within 15 days.

The police took five people from the demonstration in Vabadus Square in Tallinn on 5 November to the police station.

“All cases were linked to the slogan or phrase “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free” (Estonian, “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free”), Madis Allak, operations director of the Northern Prefecture, said at the time. “This message can be interpreted as the public display of a symbol of a crime against humanity, as it calls for the end of the existence of the State of Israel.”

He added that the use of this slogan “also justifies the commission of acts against humanity”.
