Presnel Kimpembe’s gesture has particular significance, given that Rwanda, accused of attacks against the DRC, is a sponsor of PSG. The agreements concluded with Arsenal and PSG generated revenues exceeding 0 million, with the attraction of an additional million visitors generating 5 million, according to Clare Akamanzi, head of the Development Board ( RDB), a Rwandan organization responsible for promoting the country. Since 2019, Visit Rwanda has been a Premium Partner of PSG, and this partnership was renewed last year for three more years, until 2025.
The genocide in the DRC has a particular connotation, hence the concept Geno-Cost. It is a contraction of “genocide” and “cost”, which refers to the abominable practice of carrying out genocidal acts with the aim of obtaining economic advantages. This term highlights the financial aspect of the genocide in the DRC. It serves to denounce the fallacious discourse propagated by certain media, according to which tribal or ethnic conflicts are the main cause of atrocities and instability in the DRC, when in reality, economic interests are often at play behind these human tragedies. . The commemoration of the first National Day of Tribute to the Victims of “Genocost” on August 2, 2023 recalls the urgency of the situation and the need for international action to put an end to the violence and protect vulnerable populations.

French international defender Presnel Kimpembe spoke with emotion regarding the humanitarian and security tragedy plaguing the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
“The situation is inhumane. Silence is unacceptable. A genocide is currently taking place in eastern Congo, lives are being taken every day. Women, men, children live in unimaginable conditions and suffer atrocities to the point of losing their lives,” Kimpembe said.
Born in Beaumont-sur-Oise, France, and of Congolese origin through his parents, Kimpembe emphasized the importance of his testimony beyond his family roots. “I do not speak only as a Congolese through my father but out of humanity. It is our mothers and our children who die every day in this massacre, it is essential to talk about it so that things change,” he added.
Kimpembe’s declaration comes in a context where the DRC is facing major humanitarian and security challenges, particularly in the east of the country, where conflicts persist and civilians are victims of violence and atrocities.
The professional footballer, playing for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and member of the French national team, also expressed his solidarity with all victims of genocides around the world, stressing that no life should be considered less important that others.
