Reigning Spanish Cup winners Real Madrid beat fourth-division team Arandina 3-1 in the round of 16 of the cup competition. Among others, Atletico Madrid and Girona, who are in the Premier League, also advanced.
Playing at home, Arandina kept Real Madrid clean in the first half. The outsider’s defense was broken for the first time in the 54th minute. Real striker Brahim Diaz entered the penalty area from the left side, where he was taken to the penalty grass! Joselu, who passed behind the ball, was confident – 0:1. But at half-time the score was 1:1, as Leandro Antonetti equalized in the 39th minute. Memphis Depay, who scored in both the 66th and 74th minutes, brought victory to Atletico. Second place behind Real Madrid in the La Liga standings Girona defeated first league club Elche 2:0.
They also secured a place in the round of 16 Alaveswho beat Real Betis 1:0, Vallecano radiuswho beat Huesca 2-0 in extra time and Getafewho did better than Espanyol by 1-0.
