Red Bull owns the best Formula 1 team in the world and several football clubs, the most famous of which is RB Leipzig. Apparently, they will also make waves in cycling in the future. “Red Bull plans to expand its involvement in road cycling and is targeting a partnership with Bora-Hansgrohe,” one of cycling’s top teams said in a statement.
Since the merger has to be examined by the Austrian competition authority, it is not yet fully official. “We cannot comment further on the matter because the documents are being reviewed by the authorities,” they added.
For the new season Bora-Hansgrohe has teamed up with three-time Vuelta winner Primož Roglič, who won the Giro d’Italia last year with Jumbo-Visma. The team’s best-known names include Aleksandr Vlasov, Dani Martínez, Jai Hindley, Sam Welsford, Lennard Kämna and Bob Jungels.
It is not yet known whether the team will carry the Red Bull name after receiving permission. The cycling world will probably be wiser on January 10, when the team will have a press day.
