Reinsalu: in difficult times you must also be happy with the great tit that flew behind the window | People

This Sunday the actress Elisabet Reinsalu visited “Vikerhommikus” and, among other things, discussed how to overcome even the most difficult moments.

Last week, the premiere of “The Premiere” directed by Diana Leesalu took place at the Tallinn City Theatre, with Reinsalu in the lead role. The actor said he was very touched by the gratitude of his colleagues. “Playing for critics is one thing, but when your colleagues recognize you, your heart becomes especially warm,” he exulted.

The actor emphasized that teamwork is especially important in the theater, without which nothing happens there. “You don’t play ‘Hamlet’ alone, you have to have the court behind you. That’s why it makes me especially grateful and honored that one day you will have the opportunity to play the main role,” he said. “But that’s also very nice about this job: one moment you’re an undertaker, the next Hamlet.”

Velda Peeping decision

This week Reinsalu received the Velda Otsus silver cup, a traveling Estonian theater award, awarded to an actress close to Velda Otsus (1913–2006) in terms of talent, creativity and human nature; that she has the same determination, creative demand with modesty and complete dedication to the art of the stage, and whose role play has a harmony of words, thoughts and expressive movement.

The actor said that the fact that he was awarded the award means a lot to him, because for him it is extremely important to preserve traditions. “My husband jokes that I am not a conservative, but a traditionalist. For me, family holidays, birthday mornings and Christmas evenings spent with my family are very important. It is something that, on the one hand, offers a sense of security and on the other it conveys a sort of continuity. Both things are represented in this glass”, he explained.

The travel prize was presented to Reinsalu by her previous owner, Laine Mägi, and the prize’s founder, Eneken Aksel. “Velda Otsus told Eneken Aksli, when she once gave him this glass, that it should not be put on the shelf to collect dust, but that it should be kept in use. I filled it and used it,” Reinsalu laughed.

Difficult moments are part of being human

Unfortunately, life is not only made up of happy moments and sometimes you have to face difficult situations. “In life there will be all kinds of ups and downs and there have to be, because it’s part of being human. It’s not what happens to us that matters, but how you feel about it,” Reinsalu believes.

A few years ago, Reinsalu’s father, the actor Tõnu Tamm, left us. “My father’s departure was a hard blow for me, but on the other hand, it is part of life that our parents sooner or later have to leave this life. We have to face it,” he said.

Reinsalu believes that even in difficult times you need to be able to enjoy something. “I’ve really thought a lot about how to get motivated when it’s hard to get motivated. There are two options: get that satisfaction from things you’ve done that have a higher satisfaction weight and that have meant a lot to yourself and others and take that with you and secondly, feel gratitude. And it’s not word of mouth – you really have to step into that gratitude or humility.”

The actor believes that there is something to be happy about in everyone’s life. “Even from the titmouse flying behind the window,” he observed. “When you have a person who actually asks you how you are, you’re lucky.”
