The promotion train has finally left Ried: title rivals GAK defeated Dornbirn 3-0 and are already 14 points ahead of the Innviertel team.

Admira better in the second half

Now the spring start to the 2nd football league has finally been botched: SV Guntamatic Ried is waiting for its first point after the opening defeat against FAC the previous week, even after today’s 2:3 at Admira. A penalty goal from Albin Gashi ensured the acclaimed winning goal for the Lower Austrians in the last minute of added time (94th). “It was simply not a good performance from us and probably the final proof that we are not yet ready to take the final steps to be at the top,” said Ried sports director Wolfgang Fiala, taking stock of the defeat.

A goal that gave the club from the southern part of the city the upper hand: Admira was able to carry the momentum from the first half into the second half. After the visitors lost the ball, the home team quickly switched over via Georg Davies, and Filip Ristanic converted his cross to make it 2-1 (64th).

In the finish, Ried defender Wohlmuth becomes the tragic hero of the game. First, the 21-year-old scored after a free kick from Nemanja Celic to make it 2-2 (79th), then in stoppage time he caused the penalty with a handball that led to Gashi’s winning goal for the home team.
Bitter: The game actually started perfectly for the Innviertlers: After a lob from Ante Bajic was cleared by the home team in front of the line, the Admira kickers were powerless when Wilfried Eza made a follow-up shot (18th). The Vikings’ lead didn’t last long: After a corner extra time from Wilhelm Vorsager, Lukas Malicsek was left completely alone at the far post – the home side scored 1-1 in the 29th minute.

Now it’s time to set new goals for the rest of the season: “The team is not yet advanced enough to play well in pressure situations. We want to develop further with regard to the coming season and are targeting second place,” says sports director Fiala.
