Riho Terras: Ukraine’s power is running out | Estonia

MEP, former head of the Estonian Defense Forces, Riho Terras (Isamaa), said that Western countries must seriously contribute to helping Ukraine, because Ukrainian forces are running out.

“Ukraine’s forces are running out. And the equipment and weapons are running out, too. And Russia doesn’t have much of that either. But now they are able to gather for this particular Christmas offensive. You can see it happening. Putin has the habit of often ruining Christmas, Terras told ERR.

Terras noted that since Russia has significantly increased military pressure on Ukraine, a very important two weeks await us.

“You can see that they are moving forward in different places. So the issue is very critical,” he said.

“I believe that political circles actually understand that Ukraine needs to be supported militarily. If the front were to collapse and the Russians took something back in a big way, it would be a bad message for the whole world. That in fact “The strongest military alliance of the world with like-minded countries around the world cannot resist autocratic countries. I don’t think it will go that far, but obviously the danger is there and that’s why we have to contribute fully,” Terras said.

According to Terras, the European Parliament also has a role to play in this context.

“I think it depends on the parliament whether this topic is relevant and whether it is kept constantly updated. The parliament in general has been very pro-Ukrainian, more than the member states. But I still think it depends on the parliament so much so that this topic does not disappear and the deputies they always keep active for the commission,” Terras said.
