Ryabkov said the United States “must not act under the illusion that Russia clings to diplomatic relations with this country with both hands.” According to him, Russia will not initiate the severing of diplomatic relations, but several factors could provoke it.
“The trigger could be asset confiscation, further military escalation and much more. I wouldn’t go into negative forecasts,” she added, stressing that Moscow is “ready for any scenario.”
Some Western politicians are calling for more than $300 billion in frozen Russian assets to be donated to Ukraine to help rebuild the country’s war-torn economy.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters Friday that any such move would be a major blow to the global financial system. He said Russia would “never leave alone” any country that seizes its assets, adding that if that happens, it will examine which Western assets can be confiscated.
Russia has described relations with the United States as “below zero” because the United States has supported Ukraine militarily and financially.
