Safe! Striker with mixed career looks for chance at Tottenham – Soccernet.ee

Timo Werner, the German national team striker, has left his current home club RB Leipzig and joined English top club Tottenham Hotspur on loan.

Timo Werner, who broke into the Bundesliga with Stuttgart in the 2013/14 season, also proved himself at RB Leipzig and London Chelsea in England during his career. If at home he made his way into the hearts of charlatan fans – for example, in 2019/20 he scored 28 goals in 34 league games and in the end finished only behind Robert Lewandowski – things didn’t go so well in England. At Chelsea, he made 56 Premier League appearances, resulting in ten goals and 13 assists.

In the current season, the 27-year-old RB Leipzig striker has played just eight Bundesliga matches. In just over 200 minutes he managed to achieve two goals. The lack of playing time again pushed the attacker to the limit.

“He wanted to go on loan. We wish him all the best,” German Tottenham Hotspur coach Marco Rose confirmed Werner’s departure. “He needs to play to get to the European summer finals. Fingers crossed for him!”

Tottenham’s offensive line includes Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison, Brennan Johnson and Heung-Min Son, recently named Swedish Player of the Year twice, among others. The season will resume for Tottenham, currently in fifth place, on 14 January when they visit Manchester United.
