Finally, Mancuso clarified that his return has no intention of revenge. “I am not returning to Colombia with any revanchist spirit, I have no pending accounts with anyone. I come to pay tribute to the victims, to the institutions of the State and to society in general, so that they allow me, once again, to be part of it.”
President, do not give up on promoting ideal conditions and scenarios for dialogue with these organizations. I deeply believe in the philosophical meaning that total peace entails and I believe that your idea can be materialized. You have here a humble servant of that cause,” he said.
On the one hand, Mancuso explained his repatriation by arguing that he believes in the justice processes in the country and made himself available to them. “I believe that the transitional justice models that began to operate in Colombia after our demobilization in 2004, both Justice and Peace and the Special Jurisdiction for Peace, are certain and legitimate mechanisms for the definitive judicial closure of the internal armed conflict,” he pointed out.

In his role as peace manager, Mancuso acted as an intermediary to arrange peace talks between the Government and armed organizations such as the Gaitanista Self-Defense Forces of Colombia and the Conquistadores de la Sierra Self-Defense Forces.
“Returning, despite the restrictive conditions imposed on me by the Colombian justice system, to which I abide and respect, and the difficult and complex security circumstances that surround my presence in Colombia, is a way of being reborn that fills me with life. Life that I want to dedicate to the peace and reconciliation of our country,” the statement reads.
Salvatore Mancuso has already set foot on Colombian soil. Around 2:00 in the afternoon, the former paramilitary leader got off the plane that returned him from a prison in the United States and in a statement expressed his reasons for returning to Colombia. One of his main objectives is to fulfill his role as peace manager for Gustavo Petro’s government.
However, the statement highlights the second reason why he returned: to be a peace manager for the Petro Government. “I want to honor my word with the President of the Republic, Dr. Gustavo Petro Urrego, who entrusted me with the task of being a peace manager and contributing with precise tasks in order to materialize that concept in which I fervently believe, total peace. ”.

Likewise, in the statement, the former paramilitary chief sent a message to the president in which he expressed his willingness to bring closure to the AUC episode. “Both the former commanders of the AUC and I, personally, are ready to formally install, as you announced at the time, the technical table for the definitive closure of the Ralito negotiations,” he assured.
