Sander Varusk opens up different directions of alternative music on Radio 2 | TV/Radio

The new Radio 2 program began on January 2nd, on the opening day of which several new musical programs will be broadcast. Among others, Sander Varusk will start with his self-titled show, whose weekday evening alternative music show does not recognize genre boundaries.

Radio 2’s new program starts with a longer morning program than before and keeps up with what’s happening in Estonia and around the world during the day. The R2 evening will continue to be dedicated to musical shows and some completely new shows will begin from the opening week.

Sander Varusk, who will begin his self-titled music show on January 2, will take over the airwaves soon after Koit Raudseppa and offer a glimpse into the world of alternative music Monday through Thursday at 7 p.m. The new show mixes the latest foreign and local music with rarities or favorites from previous decades.

According to Varuski, who visited R2 “Draivis”, there are no gender boundaries in his show. Since the music world is on pause due to the holidays and no new music is released, she plans to dedicate the opening week to the best songs of the past year, both Estonian and foreign. With the opening shows, Varusk wants to give the listener an idea of what kind of music will be heard on weekday evenings in the future.

“I’ll summarize the new music first. I’ll start with the music that I think is the most progressive and developed pop music at the moment, maybe RnB and hip hop. Tomorrow I plan to go more rock and postpunk. Something else will come the day after tomorrow,” she explained.

Varusk created the “Popikroonikad” program on Radio 2 for five years and will bring the experience gained there with him to the new program. According to him, “Popikronikad” gave listeners the opportunity to discover music they didn’t know or only knew briefly. “For me, old music is just as alive, which is constantly being released with new compilations and reissues,” he observed.

In addition to Sander Varuski, Magnus Kaus’ musical show “Kaustik” will be broadcast for the first time on January 2 at 10 p.m. In the new broadcast time, Tuesday at 9pm, Erkki Tero and Janek Murd will be in front of the listeners with the show “Eesti Pops”. Radio 2 continues to entertain on Tuesdays at 8pm with ‘Rhava oma kartus’.
