Six Estonian women’s epee advanced to the main table of the Doha GP, Kirpu dropped out of the competition

Nelli Differt, who occupies the 13th position in the world rankings, was the only Estonian woman to directly enter the main ranking. The rest of the Estonian national team had to redeem their ticket through qualification.

Irina Embrich managed to show the best progress in the qualification and defeated all opponents in her group, which took her straight to the main table. Kristina Kuusk, Julia Beljajeva and Veronika Zuikova also entered the top 64 with one defeat.

Katrina Lehis and Erika Kirpu, who were part of the gold women’s team at the Tokyo Olympics, had to continue their journey in the elimination rounds. Only Lehis managed to successfully get out of it, defeating the New Zealand fencer Jessie Cheng Jie Yan 15:6 and then the Hong Kong athlete Yik Hei Coco Lin 15:10. Kirpu first defeated Romanian Greta Veres 15:6, but then conceded a narrow superiority of 13:15 to American fencer Catherine Nixon.

The women’s main draw begins on Wednesday morning in Doha.
