The Senegalese national team is preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations which begins in mid-January, where they will have to defend the title won two years ago, but another salary problem typical of African national teams has become public. This time, coach Aliou Cisse has already been without pay for six months.
Local news portal dsports reported that Cisse and other coaches of the Senegalese national team have been waiting for the promised salary for six months. According to the contract, Cisse should earn 30 thousand euros a month. The Senegalese sub-federation has so far refused to comment, and Cisse is also trying not to give too much weight to the situation, probably so as not to disturb the team’s preparations for the final phase which will begin soon.
Cisse, 47 years old, who as a player managed to wear the shirt of Paris Saint-Germain, Lille and Montpeiller, then played for Birmingham City and Portsmouth in England, has coached Senegal since 2015. With him he also reached the final of African Championship 2019, but lost 0:1 to Algeria. Two years later, however, the title was won, as Egypt were defeated in the final on penalties.
Senegal also played in two World Cup finals with Cisse. In 2018, he was denied advancement from the subgroup in a rare way, because with equal indicators, Japan was finally favored by the number of points from fair play. In 2022, Qatar managed to get through the subgroup, but then immediately lost 0:3 to England.
This time, the African Nations Caricature Tournament, which will be held in Ivory Coast, will begin on January 13 and the final will be held on February 11.
