Suarez and Messi will start hunting goals together next season | Soccer

Lionel Messi’s hometown club Inter Miami announced on Friday that it had signed Luis Suarez, the Argentine’s longtime teammate and one of the best strikers of the last decade.

Inter have signed the 36-year-old Uruguayan international to a one-year contract, with a clause for a second year. Last season, Suarez represented the Gremio club in the Brazilian Premier League, for which he scored 26 goals in 53 matches.

“I am very happy and excited to face a new challenge with Inter Miami. I can’t wait for the season to start and I am ready to work to turn this club’s championship dream into reality,” said Suarez. “I will do everything to bring joy to these fans and I can’t wait to meet my dear friends and players again.”

Club co-owner David Beckham said what makes Suarez special is his passion for football. “He joins a team that will inspire the next generation and we are very excited to see him take to the pitch alongside his former teammates and our Academy graduates,” Beckham said.

In addition to Suarez and Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, who also played for Barcelona for a long time, also play in Miami. Together they have won four Spanish championships and the Champions League title in 2015.

Suarez scored 475 career goals and has previously represented Liverpool, Atletico Madrid and Ajax Amsterdam as well as Barcelona.
