SVT: Sweden has a major shortage of artillery | foreign country

Swedish national broadcaster SVT writes that Sweden has, among other things, a large shortage of artillery ammunition due to disruptions in the supply of raw materials.

Sweden has its own ammunition factories, but they have had difficulties with production due to delays in the delivery of raw materials, SVT reported.

SVT visited the Karlskoga plant, where production was then stopped, although production could take place around the clock.

The situation with artillery became complicated after the Russian attack on Ukraine. All European countries want to replenish their ammunition stocks, and in addition, part of the stocks was sent to help Ukraine.

According to SVT, the Swedish government has decided that artillery can be purchased without going through the normal procurement process. This offers the opportunity to purchase artillery ammunition from other Nordic countries, for example from Finland, writes Yle.

According to the Finnish and Norwegian-owned ammunition manufacturer Nammo, delivery times at their ammunition factory in Sweden have increased to six years. According to Raimo Helasmäe, CEO of Nammo, Sweden is considering merging joint procurement in Finland and Norway.
