Tallinn will probably also run night buses to Pirita and Nõmme | Estonia

The Tallinn city government will decide this week where and at what times night buses will run next year. The fact that night buses will run all year round is already written in the draft city budget, which the Tallinn city council is expected to approve on Thursday.

The night buses, launched as a pilot project in May, proved so popular that Tallinn kept them running until the end of the year, although it reduced departures in late autumn and winter. If in the summer night buses ran on the night of Friday, Saturday and Sunday, now there are no buses on Friday night.

At the same time, Tallinn plans to open two more routes next year: Nõmme and Pirita, in addition to the current four routes departing from Balti station (Lasnamäe, Mustamäe, Väike-Õismäe and Pelguranna).

“I can say that we have a lot of demand, or at least it seems that there is a lot of it, from the two regions currently covered by the night bus lines, namely Pirita and Nõmme. But in what form exactly and whether it will be these lines, it is will probably know in the next few days,” Tallinn Deputy Mayor Vladimir Svet told ERR.

According to Sveti, the statistics of night buses were analyzed and it turns out that the bus schedule should be slightly changed so that they do not run completely empty. “Statistics have shown that the night before Friday and the hours after 4 were less busy,” she said.

Currently night buses run every half hour until 3.30am. In summer the last departure was at 5.

Based on the data collected so far, the most popular directions are Lasnamäe (33.8% of average weekend users) and Mustamäe (32.6).
