NASA’s Ingenuity Mars Helicopter Takes its Final Flight and Sends a Farewell Message to Earth

The Legacy of Ingenuity: Exploring New Horizons in Helicopter Technology

Ingenuity, NASA’s history-making Mars helicopter, has completed its final flight and bid farewell to the team that made its remarkable journey possible. Despite sustaining damage during a rough landing, Ingenuity continued to collect data and communicate with its companion, the Perseverance rover.

Ingenuity’s last communication with Earth was a tribute to the dedicated individuals who worked tirelessly on this groundbreaking project. Utilizing an interplanetary game of telephone, NASA Jet Propulsion Labs mission controllers sent this farewell message through Perseverance as a communications base station.

Today, Ingenuity rests in the Jezero Crater at Valinor Hills—a fitting homage to J.R.R. Tolkien’s epic fantasy series “The Lord of the Rings.” The broken rotor blade serves as a testament to Ingenuity’s

“Shayda”: rebuilding oneself after violence

In the opening scene of The thing, the first feature film by Australian-Iranian director Noora Niasari, a young Iranian mother holds her little daughter by the hand in an airport. She points out safe places where she can hide or seek help if, during one of her unsupervised outings with her father, he tries to kidnap her and take her across the border.

This visceral fear and insecurity are at the heart of every shot of the film, in which Shayda (Zar Amir Ebrahimi, all nuances) finds refuge in a center that welcomes victims of violence, in Australia, with her 6-year-old daughter, Mona (Selina Zahednia, just). She is fleeing a tyrannical husband, Hossein (Osamah Sami), determined to bring them both,

Physicists begin searching for dark matter deep within the mountain

A new search for mysterious dark matter is now starting in an underground laboratory in Abruzzo (Italy). The large-scale COSINUS experiment was inaugurated on Thursday. Sheltered from disruptive external influences, researchers from Austria, Germany and Italy want to use it to verify the results of the only instrument in the world that has provided evidence of the existence of dark matter 1,400 meters deep beneath the Gran Sasso massif.

If you drive from the Adriatic coast to L’Aquila, the capital of the Italian region of Abruzzo, you have to cross the Gran Sasso massif, which soars to almost 3,000 meters high, in a ten kilometer long motorway tunnel. Halfway through the tunnel there is a detour to the Gran Sasso National Laboratories (LNGS), the largest underground laboratory in the world. Only authorized people and vehicles can take this exit, which ends in front of a huge metal gate.

Anyone expecting gleaming white or a gleaming James Bond-style high-tech laboratory will be disappointed at first glance. It rather gives the impression of a mine or a cellar with countless pipes, cables, valves, large tanks and smaller gas cylinders with warning signs for liquid nitrogen, helium, argon, etc. among a few people wearing helmets.

High technology is hidden behind enormous steel structures and containers. They are densely packed in three underground rooms 100 x 20 meters wide and 18 meters high and in the corridors connecting them, some of which almost reach the ceiling.

The search for very weak or very rare signals produced by various elementary particles when they interact with matter in detectors is the focus of most experiments. The focus is on neutrinos, such as those produced by the sun, or dark matter.

Five large experiments in the underground laboratory are dedicated to the search for dark matter using different approaches and detectors. The most recent of these is the COSINUS (Cryogenic Observatory for Signatures seen in Next-generation Underground Searches) experiment, in which Austrian, German and Italian scientists collaborate.

Dark matter is not visible, but manifests itself only through its gravitational effect: if you look at the speed with which stars move around the center of their galaxy, they should actually be thrown away. Since this doesn’t happen, science assumes that a previously unknown form of matter holds galaxies together with its gravity.

This dark matter makes up about 85% of the mass of the universe. But how it is and what it consists of is one of the greatest mysteries of modern physics.

For decades, various experiments and approaches have been used in vain attempts to detect dark matter, so far without success. Only the DAMA (Dark Matter) experiment, underway in LNGS since 1995, has been providing signals indicatin

Behind the scenes of Puy du Fou

Vendée exaltation

It was in 1977 that Philippe de Villiers – a Vendée businessman and future politician with a strong right-wing influence – discovered the Puy du Fou castle, in ruins. A year later, the first performance was performed by more than 600 members of the Puy du Fou association. The Grand Parc was created in 1989 and offers a new show every year. A panoramic grandstand with 12,000 seats is built. The medieval city opened its stalls in 1995. Two years later, the main stage was extended by 5 hectares and the stand accommodated 2,000 additional spectators. The Gallo-Roman Stadium was inaugurated in 2001. Then came the construction of the Bourg 1900, then a village. The Grand Carrousel Equestre welcomed its first spectators in 2006. It was from 2007 that visitors could sleep on the site. They now have the choice between six hotels. Puy du Fou is chaired today by one of the sons of its founder
