Intel and Sandia National ⁤Laboratories Unveil Hala Point Neuromorphic System

Neuromorphic computing, a field still⁢ in the ‌research phase, has seen significant growth in recent years. Intel and ⁣Sandia National⁢ Laboratories ‌have announced the deployment⁣ of the Hala Point neuromorphic ‍system, touted as the world’s highest capacity system with 1.15 billion neurons. This system⁤ is powered by Intel’s ⁢Loihi 2 neuromorphic chip, which ⁣was⁢ introduced ⁣in late 2021.

Hala Point System Details

The Hala Point system features 1152 Loihi 2 processors, each capable of simulating a million neurons. These processors are compact, measuring just 31 mm2 with 2.3 billion transistors, built on the Intel 4 process. The entire system occupies only 6 rack units, consuming 2.6 kW of power. Hala Point has surpassed the SpiNNaker system as the largest di

Horrified! This is the largest row of waves in the world, some reaching more than 500 meters

Big waves are not only sought after by surfing lovers but also scientists. (Photo: USA Today)

JAKARTA – History records a number of natural phenomena in the form of the largest waves in the world. Whether it occurs due to natural disasters or routinely occurs in waters.

Big waves are not only sought after by surfing lovers but also by scientists who are looking for answers to the unique mysteries of nature.

Reporting from Rapturecamps, Wednesday (17/4/2024), the record for the biggest wave in the world is still held by Lituya Bay in Alaska. The place was hit by the highest waves ever recorded, as high as 1,720 feet or 524 meters. The huge waves were triggered by a major landslide in 1958 and caused extensive damage.

The next biggest wave in the world is tsunami in the Indian Ocean in 2004. The tsunami at that time produced giant waves as hig

Ubisoft responds to the Star Wars Outlaws controversy

#Ubisoft #responds #Star #Wars #Outlaws #controversy

Star Wars Outlaws will be released next summer, but that game has hit some rough waters lately. Ubisoft announced that the game will have different editions, with the more expensive editions receiving a season pass and other content. One of the bonuses you get with the more expensive editions is the “Jabba’s Gambit” mission and that decision is quite controversial. After all, why would you hide a mission with one of the most memorable Star Wars villains behind a paywall?

Ubisoft has now responded (in a conversation with IGN) on this whole inc

Not even Will Smith could save zombie survival game Undawn, which “failed spectacularly”

The zombie survival video game Undawn, starring Will Smith, flopped, according to a new report.

Reuters said Undawn, which it described as a “key” game developed internally by Tencent, “failed spectacularly” despite having the backing of Hollywood star Will Smith and a supposed budget of around 1 billion yuan (around of 140 million dollars). Sources told the publication that Undawn had more than 300 developers.

The PC and mobile game Undawn launched in June to much fanfare an

ESA selects four new Earth exploration missions

ESA’s Earth exploration missions generate a wealth of surprising discoveries, which form the basis for scientific research in this field. Now, four new concepts have been selected to undergo evaluation studies, one of which is set to be the twelfth in this family of world-leading satellite missions. The selection follows a call for ideas for Earth Explorer missions released in early 2023.

Of the 17 proposals, which were carefully evaluated, ESA’s Advisory Committee on Earth Observations (ACEO) recommended that four of the ideas proceed to the evaluation study phase. Today, ESA’s Earth Observation Program Board formally accepted this recommendation, meaning that the proposed mission concepts, CryoRad, ECO, Hydroterra+ and Keystone, will now be fully evaluated and will effectively constitute the first steps competitive towards ESA’s twelfth Earth Explorer mission.

Simonetta Cheli, director of ESA’s Earth observation programmes, said: “These decisions are always challenging, especially because the quality of all the proposals submitted was very high. The mission concepts that will now be evaluated each address key areas of science that could advance knowledge of our Earth system. “We thank ACEO and the broader scientific community for their continued support in helping us select the best ideas that will fill research gaps and demonstrate new ways to observe our planet from space.”

Los four concepts the selected missions are:

  1. CryoRad: It would fill an important gap in cryosphere observations through direct measurement of low-frequency microwave passive brightness temperatures using a new broadband radiometer. From these new measurements, key parameters such as the temperature profile of ice shelves, the thickness of sea ice and the salinity of the sea surface in cold waters can be d

New software to analyze genomic data

2024-04-17 17:30:30

The complexity of an organism emerges from its genome, the book that contains its DNA’s instructions for life. The method for reading this book, sequencing, has evolved towards reading increasingly longer fragments of the genome.

In this field, a research group led by the Institute of Integrative Systems Biology (I2SysBio), a joint center of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) and the University of Valencia (UV), in Spain, has created and presented publicly in the academic journal Nature Methods an improvement of a proprietary computer program capable of discovering new transcripts, RNA molecules that genes use to synthesize proteins and create tissues, from their sequencing with long-read instruments, as well as assigning them a function in the formation of the organism.

Long-read sequencing is the third generation of genome sequencing methods. Compared to reading short fragments, which analyzes about 200 nucleotides (the letters that make up genes), long reading methods can obtain reads 100 times longer, about 20,000 nucleotides, which leaves fewer gaps in the genome information fo

Motorola Introduces New Moto Buds and Buds+ Earphones with Active Noise Cancellation and Hi-Res Audio Certification

Motorola puts smartphones with a great value on the table in most cases, and the company tries to provide this standard in the field of consumables as well. Buds and buds+ earphones they can serve a wide audience along with the new Motorola Edge and other Moto models.

The pair of Moto Buds were born with a similar design, but there are significant differences under the surface. The Buds headphones are built around a 12.4 millimeters speaker, which provides excellent sound. According to the company, they tried to create a balanced sound profile, which the user can then shape to their own taste through EQ.

However, the Buds + already has a two-speaker design, it has an 11-millimeter woofer and a special 6-millimeter tweeter. This allows for much better detail in the various frequency ranges. “Sound by Bose” can be read next to the name of Buds +, because they are said to have been tuned by Bose engineers and several EQ profiles have
