How did the mighty sabre-tooth tiger keep its large teeth from breaking off? According to scientists, it could well be that the baby teeth played an important role in this.

Saber-tooth tiger skulls have been harvested for quite a few years now Smilodon fatal excavated from the La Brea Tar Pits, near Los Angeles. Scientists have now collected more than 2,000 skulls from this site. However, some of these skulls turned out to be slightly different from the rest: they still had their ‘baby teeth’. New research shows that there was an important reason for this: it is likely that the sabre-tooth tiger kept its baby teeth during ‘puberty’, in order to protect and guide the growth of the permanent saber teeth.

Scientist Jack Tseng contributed to the research. He says: “The new research confirms an idea that I, together with other scientists, had suggested a number of years ago. For example, we suspected that the growth of the saber teeth was timed in such a way that it made a ‘double tooth’ phase possible. The idea here is that the baby teeth fully emerge first. ANRAN Q4 Max in the test, solar surveillance camera with PTZ motor

Battery-powered surveillance cameras are something practical. However, charging the battery can sometimes be annoying.

Therefore, there are now some models that integrate a solar panel into their surveillance cameras. We have exactly such a model in front of us with the ANRAN Q4 Max.

This is a 5 megapixel / Full HD surveillance camera with motor, battery and a large integrated solar panel. At first glance, we have absolutely everything here!

Let’s take a look at how good or bad the ANRAN Q4 Max really is!

At this point, many thanks to ANRAN, who provided me with the camera for a test.

ANRAN Q4 Max im Test

The ANRAN Q4 Max is a relatively large surveillance camera. This relies on the fairly typical design of a rotating and pivoting outdoor surveillance camera.

This has an angled structure with a movable dome on the underside.

The big visual special feature here is the solar panel on the top. It is angled away from the wall of the house and is comparatively large. This should help capture some light and also load the camera effectively.

Alternatively, you can also charge the camera manually via a USB C port. This is hidden under a small flap.

The power switch, reset button and the slot for a microSD memory card are also located under a small flap.

Installation is done using a small bracket that is screwed to the wall. The camera is then simply attached to this holder.

The ANRAN App

ANRAN has its own app. It makes a decent impression, but is not “special” either. After registering with the manufacturer, the app generates a QR code from your WiFi access data.

You have to hold this in front of the camera, it will then be read and connect to the app and your WiFi.

In the app you will find an overview of all connected cameras on the home page, with a preview of the last live view.

If you tap this, the app connects to your camera. Depending on WiFi and network stability, this can take between 3 and 10 seconds.

In the live view you can manually take pictures/videos, initiate two-way communication, control the motor and of course adjust other settings.

Motion detection, alarm and recording time

Like almost all battery-powered surveillance cameras, the ANRAN Q5 only r
