The Advent light was lit in Haapsalu Estonia

Every year Haapsalu is distinguished by the fact that the Advent fire is lit already on the night before the first Advent. Anyone who wished could bring the Advent fire to their home in Haapsalu.

Before lighting the Advent fire, the old town of Haapsalu was decorated with fire barrels and candles. Crowds began to gather in the grounds of Haapsalu Castle half an hour before the start of the event. Many came with their children.

“We’ve always been and every year we go to see the Christmas tree lighting, to see the Santas. (Son) Mikk has also been here every time to watch next to me,” Margus said.

Since the anticipation of Christmas begins with Advent, there was no shortage of Santa Clauses. This time the reindeer sleighs were left at home and we went there by public transport. The Haapsalu city bus helped get out of trouble.

From Sunday, Santa Claus’ house will open its doors in the park of Haapsalu Castle, where Santa Claus awaits children on weekends from 11:00 to 17:00. The representative of the Santa Claus delegation has already received the key to the house from Haapsalu Mayor Urmas Sukles.

Soloists from the Laulumarjad music studio performed to create the Advent atmosphere. The highlight of the evening came with the lighting of the Advent candle. This was done by the bishop of the Lutheran Church, Tiit Salumäe, who together with his wife Lia distributed the Advent fire to all those who wanted to take it home with them.

“There are many worries in the world, but for the Christmas season, for the Advent season, I wish joy. Let us notice each other in our homes, in our loved ones and let us give each other hands and hearts and encourage each other to continue in goodness,” Salumäe said.

The distribution of Advent lights is one of the busiest events of the winter in Haapsalu, and this was confirmed again this year. The bishop spent a lot of time with his wife, but not a single lantern or candle that people had with them remained there.
