The airport will be closed for several months for renovation work on the museum museum

The airport is closed from January 1st to May, as during that time the Estonian Maritime Museum is updating its permanent exhibition and the seaplane hangar will have a new interior design.

The permanent exhibition of the Lennusadama Maritime Museum opened in 2012. Since then, just over two million visitors have left their ticket money there.

The most exciting part of the upgrades is moving heavy objects to allow for repairs. Some of the Soviet-era guns are to be removed from the weapons platform to replace them with a display of the history of the Estonian naval forces.

“After all, most of these guns arrived here before the Lembi submarine. And we have to find these means, because we can no longer move the submarine. Not even this gangway that we are on did not exist. So the logistical solution is It would very difficult to lift without it, the gangway has not been eliminated”, explains Urmas Dresen, member of the board of directors of the maritime museum.

“The next heavy object is an anti-aircraft tank – 28 tons. Likewise, it must fly out of here as simply and elegantly as possible, because this area /…/ in the future will remain exclusively for maritime aviation,” Dresen said.

One of the first wrecks found, the Maasilinna ship, is not as magnificent as the latest excavated pieces, but it has a new backdrop.

“It will basically stay in the same place, but the innovation will be mostly in the backdrop of the Maasilinna wreck and in the underwater archeology stands connected to the Maasilinna wreck,” Dresen said.

The museum will have more simulators and some exhibits will have better access. In this way we think above all of children.

The airport is open until the end of the year. Construction of the new project will begin on January 1. Many visitors would probably pay several times the ticket price to see how the anti-aircraft guns and armor are removed, but they won’t be able to see it.
