Heavy music and orchestra come together: two musical worlds that usually exist in parallel, whose interaction creates something never seen before. Unlike previous projects, Bright & Black does something completely unique, giving authors known for heavy ensembles the opportunity to write music directly for the orchestra. As a result of an unexpected approach, a new colorful and charged sound language is born, offering an unforgettable experience.

The full album was recorded using Dolby Atmos technology with a 65-member orchestra in autumn 2022 at the Estonian National Broadcasting Studio in Tallinn. Produced by Jacob Hellner. Performed by the Baltic Sea Philharmonic. Director Kristjan Järvi. Orchestral arrangement by Jonny Abraham. The album was recorded in close collaboration with Sunbeam Productions. Further recording took place at Urban Sound in Oslo, while post-production and mixing took place at Big Island Sound in Stockholm.
Bright & Black focuses first and foremost on the music. The project features the participation of Eicca Toppinen (Apocalyptica), Fredrik Åkesson (Opeth), Erik Danielsson (Watain), Nico Elgstrand (Entombed AD), Tomas Haake / Dick Lövgren (Meshuggah), Jacob Hellner and Kristjan Järvi.
Eicca Toppinen is the founder of the Finnish heavy music group Apocalyptica and the soloist of Bright & Black. He received his musical education at the Sibelius Academy. He has composed and produced music for various theater and film productions. Eicca has been performing heavy music on the cello for 25 years.
Kristjan Järvi, who lives in Tallinn, is a conductor, producer and composer who comes from a family of great conductors. Kristjan, his father Neeme and his brother Paavo hold the conductor’s baton in the best orchestras in the world. Kristjan is known as an innovative and bold conductor who is not afraid to move between different styles and genres. Together with his team, he manages the work of Sunbeam Productions, a company based in Estonia. Kristjan is also a founding member and artistic director of the Baltic Sea Philharmonic Orchestra.
For 30 years, Stockholm-based music producer Jacob Hellner has helped top-tier heavy metal bands such as Rammstein, Clawfinger, Apocalyptica and Entombed AD. In addition to producing, he has written music for various television, film and theater productions. Jacob is the founder and artistic director of Bright & Black together with Per Kviman.
