The coalition rejected the establishment of a prime minister’s commission of inquiry in the Riigikogu | Estonia

Members of the Riigikogu coalition on Wednesday rejected the bill that sought to establish a Riigikogu commission of inquiry tasked with investigating the circumstances of the affairs of a Russia-linked company with the participation of the prime minister’s wife.

51 deputies of the Riigikogu voted in favor of rejecting the bill, 26 against, 13 deputies did not vote, including Raimond Kaljulaid (SDE), Anti Allas (SDE), Liisa Pakosta (Estonia 200), Tarmo Tamm (Estonia 200 ), Toomas Kivimägi. (RE), Luisa Rõivas (RE) and Mario Kadastik (RE).

The corresponding draft was presented to the Riigikogu for first reading by faction leader Isamaa Helir-Valdor Seeder.

According to Seder, the creation of a commission to investigate the prime minister’s scandal is still relevant and should not be forgotten.

“The war between Russia and Ukraine continues to be relevant. The issue is still a question of Estonian security. It has not lost its relevance. Even these suspicious deals with Russia, which were raised in the press, are still a question of security Estonian, and at such a high level as that of the Prime Minister’s family. So it is not an outdated issue,” Seeder said.

However, on November 21, the committee responsible for the project, the Constitutional Committee, proposed to reject the project at first reading, and the vote went the same way, and the project was eliminated from the proceedings.
