The common mobile package volume limit in Estonia is not usual in many countries | Economy

When an Estonian chooses an internet and calling package to use on his phone, he is used to the fact that the price is higher the more gigabytes of internet capacity the package contains. If the volume included in the package runs out before the end of the month, you can purchase more, but the price of the additional volume is usually quite high.

For example, the package selection section of the Telia website begins with the fact that you need to choose the appropriate Internet volume. Telia has only one package with no volume limit. This is a 5G package that costs 35.59 euros per month.

Elisa has two unlimited 5G smart packages, of which the most expensive costs 51.84 euros and the cheapest 41.67 euros per month. The price difference is due to the fact that the more expensive package includes more data for use in the European Union.

The largest of Telia’s fixed monthly packages includes 40 gigabytes of 5G Internet and costs 31.53 euros per month. The price of the Elisa package of the same volume differs from that of the competitor by only two cents: 31.51 euros.

However, if you consider the mobile offers of the major operators in neighboring countries, it becomes clear that in many places restrictions on Internet volume are not common.

For a Latvian LMT package with unlimited internet volume, where you can talk and send messages even in Latvia, you have to pay 28.98 euros per month. The LMT offer also includes a number of age-dependent mobile offers, i.e. separate prices for schoolchildren, students, teenagers and seniors. Even in the packages offered to schoolchildren and young people there is no limit to the Internet volume and their price range is between 7.99 and 19.98 euros, depending on age.

The only LMT package in Latvia, where the internet capacity is limited and is only two gigabytes, is the package for seniors, which costs 10.99 euros per month.

Even in Finnish mobile packages the volume limit is not usual, but there the monthly fee is related to the speed. Finnish Telia offers the most expensive 5G packages with a speed of 1000 megabits per second and costs 44.99 euros per month. Finnish Elisa offers a similar mobile package with a monthly fee of 49.99 euros. In both Elisa and Telia a one-off opening cost of 8.99 euros is added to the package prices.

At Telia Sweden, a mobile package with unlimited volume costs 39.2 euros per month for six months during the campaign, after which the monthly fee is 49.68 euros. Furthermore, during the current campaign, at this price you can have access to TV4 Play, Netflix and HBO Max. At the same time, Sweden offers a discount for under 28s, who can purchase all packages for a monthly fee cheaper by over four euros.

If you look at the cheapest packages, Elisas Finland is the cheapest at 15.99 euros per month and its speed is five megabits per second. In Telia there, the price of 4G packages for the same speed starts from 15.99 euros. In Telia Sweden the price of a mobile package with this speed is 23.49 euros.

In Estonia, Telia’s cheapest package is almost non-existent, with 0.05 gigabytes of internet capacity and costs 5.09 euros per month. You have to pay 11.19 euros for a package with an Internet capacity of one gigabyte. Elisa does not offer these micropackages and there is a 13 gigabyte variant with the cheapest monthly fee, which costs 12.19 euros.

Evelin Neerot, head of Telia’s connection services department, told ERR that the logic of offering mobile packages may be slightly different in different countries. He emphasized that in Estonia they decided not to limit mobile Internet speed in mobile packages and thanks to this customers can always use the maximum possible speed currently allowed by the mobile network and the customer’s phone.

“Years ago, for example, speed was limited in 3G packages and this caused some dissatisfaction among customers. With the arrival of the 4G network, we eliminated speed limitations in packages and customer satisfaction increased significantly,” he said. explained.

In the case of home Internet, prices depend on speed

As for domestic cable Internet, Telia in Estonia offers a package with a speed of 1000 megabits per second for 73.2 euros per month. In the Swedish subsidiary a similar package costs 87.22 euros per month.

Home Internet with the cheapest monthly fee costs 19 euros per month in Eesti Telia, but the speed is 20 megabits per second.

Elisa Eesti charges 17.27 euros per month for the cheapest monthly rate for home Internet and its speeds are 15 megabits per second download and three megabits per second upload. The most expensive package costs 34.56 euros, but its download speed is half that of Telia’s fastest package and upload speed is 50 megabits per second.

In neighboring countries you can only view prices for domestic cable Internet by entering specific address data. However, you can see the condition of the home Internet provided over the air.

In the Swedish Telia, home internet complete with equipment costs 39.14 euros per month if a two-year contract is signed. The allowed speed is 10-150 megabits per second. You can have internet from home in a villa with a package that costs 19.96 euros, but in this case the speed is five megabits per second.

The Latvian LMT offers 4G or 5G Internet at home, depending on the speed, priced from 18.98 to 23.99 euros per month and the price includes a router.

Estonian Elisa charges 40.66 euros per month for 5G home Internet with unlimited volume and speed in Estonia, the cheapest option costs 18.29 euros, but in this case the speed is up to 15 megabits per second. Here at Telia the price of a 5G Internet package over the air is 42.70 euros per month and the speed is 100-500 megabits per second.

In Elisa Finland the price of 4G home Internet starts from 22.99 euros, and the most expensive and fastest connection costs 44.99 euros in a month.

In February, Estonians’ internet bills will increase, because by then the VAT increase will already be reflected on them. Furthermore, Telia announced that it will increase the prices of its services starting from March.
