The crisis and West Virginia suffered a major loss of a top-tier university | basketball

Estonian basketball player Kerr Kriisa and his West Virginia Mountaineers team lost 55:89 to the highly rated Houston Cougars in the first Big 12 intra-conference game of the NCAA student league.

West Virginia, which has lost eight of its last 11 games, shot 4 of 23 from long range and finished the game at 32.1%. LJ Cryer scored 20 points for third-seeded Houston.

Only one West Virginia player earned more playing time than Kriisa, who remained on the court for 26 minutes, but the Estonian was limited to seven points (2/4 field goals, 2/2 free throws). He also had one rebound, one assist and three turnovers. WV’s leading scorer was Pat Suemnick, who scored 12 points.

Houston, which finished in the top 16 of the NCAA finals two years ago, eight last year, is one of the traditionally most highly regarded universities. For the past decade, the Cougars have played in the AAC Conference, but for this season they joined the Big 12 Conference along with Cincinnati, UCF and BYU.

So Houston began its Big 12 era with a win, West Virginia lost its first intraconference game and continues its season with a matchup against Kansas State on Wednesday.
