The Estonian U20 women’s volleyball team is looking to advance from the EEVZA championships

The opponents of the Estonian women’s team in the tournament are Azerbaijan, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine.

The EEVZA Championship is also the first round of the European Championship selection series. All women’s teams face each other once, the winner of the tournament directly guarantees a place in the finals of the 2024 U20 European Championship. Places 2.-4. will play in the second round of the EC selection series in the spring.

Coach Marko Mett started preparation on December 18 with 17 players, of which 14 will play. During the preparation for the tournament, the women’s team was also able to undergo a necessary test match against the players of the Estonian national team and those of the national team volleyball venue in front of a large audience on December 30th.

“The control game definitely helped us a lot and we are ready to play EEVZA. I think the girls got more motivation from this great event. In the end we decided to go to Lithuania with three communication actors, each with a handwriting different and each of them can therefore create different opportunities. In attack we have two clear leaders in Nora Lember and Carmel Vares, the corner attackers should keep the game and defense in general in order, and furthermore there are also two excellent liberos and the whole composition is actually such that I can make changes,” commented Mett.

“Speaking of goals, I would definitely like to beat Lithuania and Latvia. And if three of our attacking players had a great day, we could also face stronger teams like Poland and Ukraine. On site we will obviously take one match at a time and I hope everyone can give their best”, added the coach.
