In the basketball Euroleague, league leaders Real Madrid suffered their third defeat of the season in the 22nd round, when they lost 76:98 to Monaco away from home. Kaunas Žalgiri also earned a winning bonus.
Monaco (12-10) already scored 33 points in the first quarter and increased its lead to 20 points at the end of the second quarter. Džanan Musa opened the second half with a shot that reduced Real’s deficit (19-3) to 14 points, but the home team responded with an 11-0 run and managed to increase the gap to 29 points on two occasions.
Jordan Loyd scored 19 points for Monaco, which shot 56 percent, and Mike James added 15 points, 12 assists and six rebounds. Musa was Real’s top scorer with 12 points.
Kaunas Žalgiris (8-14) delighted the home crowd with a 98:75 victory over Fenerbahce (13-9), who are in fifth place in the table and are coached by Lithuanian basketball legend Šarunas Jasikevicius.
Keenan Evans scored 21 points and seven assists for Žalgiris, Laurynas Birutis supported the team with 16 points and ten rebounds. The first Lithuanian club scored 60% of field goals against 34% of the visiting team.
