The European Central Bank left interest rates at the current level | Economy

The Council of the European Central Bank (ECB) decided to leave interest rates unchanged at its meeting on Thursday.

The decision means that the interest rate for basic refinancing operations will remain at 4.5%, the interest rate for the fixed loan option will remain at 4.75% and the interest rate for the deposit option fixed will remain at 4%.

Most analysts predicted that the ECB would leave interest rates at their current level and not tighten monetary policy. It is not yet clear when the ECB will start cutting interest rates.

The European Central Bank announced on Thursday that the Council is determined to ensure that inflation returns to its medium-term target of 2% in time.

Based on the current assessment, the Board believes that base interest rates are at a level that, if maintained long enough, will significantly support the achievement of this objective. Further Council decisions will ensure that base interest rates remain sufficiently restrictive for as long as necessary.
