Local transport volume was almost two million tonnes, down a quarter from the previous year. In 2023, transit shipments accounted for a total of approximately 2.1 million tonnes of shipments moving on Estonian railways, which is 47% less than in 2022.

During the year, container transports on the Estonian Railways infrastructure amounted to 24,700 TEU, or standard 20-foot containers (twenty-foot equivalent units), which is 59% less than in 2022.

In 2023, almost 7.8 million passengers traveled by train in the local community, an increase of 9% compared to the previous year.
