The gallery of Riigikogu presidents was completed with a portrait of Jüri Ratas

Riigikogu President Lauri Hussar together with artist Aapo Puk opened a portrait of the former Riigikogu President and current Vice President Jüri Ratas in the Riigikogu President’s Gallery in Toompea Castle.

The Hussar said that Jüri Ratas is the youngest president of the Riigikogu in the portraits displayed in this gallery. “Ratas has served as president and vice-president of the Riigikogu and prime minister. As an energetic, determined and firm leader, he still has a significant future ahead of him,” Hussar said. He handed over the blue-black-white national flag to Ratas, which flew on the Pika Hermann Tower during his term as president of the Riigikogu.

Aapo Pukk described the course of the painting process and said that the posing took place in front of the door of the Riigikogu hall. “Jüri is a warm, direct and open person,” Pukk said. He added that while posing we talked about children, school, teaching, our country, parents, hobbies, God. The view of the Riigikogu session hall was chosen for the painting. In the background you can see a lectern and the president’s chair. “It seemed important to me to show the interior design of the beautiful hall of the Riigikogu building,” explained Pukk.
