The Gingerbread Boys are selling like hotcakes

The polyphonic singing of Eri Klas, Uno Loob, Arved Haug and Kalju Terasmaa enchanted hearts in Tallinn’s cult restaurants in the early 1960s, where life only began after midnight. They were revered as foreign artists touring throughout the Soviet Union and, of course, they were also loved in all cultural houses of Estonia where they opened the song. The youth of the four talented musicians was filled with crazy adventures, falling in love, disappointments and self-discovery, and in the subsequent creative path there were many successes. All this will also be staged in Kiidjärvi in summer.

To the surprise of many, the old hits of the male quartet are still known today. “Romantika” sounds like an amen in church as the closing song of each show “Rahva oma kratus”, “Sepa’s story” is performed extremely effectively by Priit Voigemast and Vaiko Eplik on their co-authors’ evenings. And “Green Threads” is still commonly revived at kitchen parties of older generations. At least sonically, “Wonderful Summer Day” is certainly familiar, the original version of which “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” sung by Brian Hyland went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1960.

It looks like the best of the 60s

Since the creative paths of the prototypes of the opera’s protagonists brought them together with many Estonian theater heroes of the era before and after, Kiidjärvi plays beloved songs and duets by Marju Kuudi, Anu Antoni, Tiiu Variku, Helgi Sallo, Georg Otsa, Kalmer Tennosaare, Artur Rinne and many other songs.

To be sure, the quartet in question performed for the first time in front of the public and for money, as Eri Klas jokingly recalled, not alone, but as an accompanying ensemble of Heli Läätse. The tape was taken from “Lipsi” – a song to which young Estonians enthusiastically fed the fashion dance of the same name created in East Germany, with which they tried to stop the decadent Western vulgar rock n rollthe attack. But not for long, because a few years later in every school in Estonia there were kids who gradually learned to play the electric guitar.

“Green Meadows” still focuses on music with the so-called draws and in addition to Priit Voigemast, Priit Strandberg, Ott Lepland and Kalle Sepa participate in the summer production Sepo Seemann, Pietro Oia, Birgit Sarrap, Jan Uuspöld, Marianne Leibur, Laura Calle, Liina Tennosaar and many others.

The show is brought to the public by the authors of the successful comedies of recent summers – “The old piano, or the ski base has a dance party” and “ADA. The creators of “Untold Stories”. Ott Kilusk, Tarmo Kiviväli and Maarek Toompere are behind the idea of the gripping story. The director is Priit Voigemast and the lyrics are written by Ott Kilusk. Musical director Siim Aimla.

The shows will take place next summer from 25 July to 11 August in Kiidjärvi in Põlva County.

In addition to discounted and regular tickets, VIP tickets are also available, which include the best seats in the front rows, the show program and gourmet food in the VIP tent before the show and during the intermission.
