The head of the Tibetan government in exile and a representative of the Dalai Lama visited the Riigikogu Foreign country

The highest political leader of the Tibetan government in exile, President Penpa Tsering, and the Dalai Lama’s special representative, Sonam Frasi, visited the Riigikogu on Thursday.

The Tibetan Government in Exile was established in 1959 and is elected by Tibetans from exile communities in North America, Europe and Australasia.

The visit was organized by Juku-Kalle Raid, president of the Riigikogu Tibetan Support Group. The meeting was accompanied by scientific presentations on the history of Tibet.

“Despite the fact that Estonia is a small country, it is one of the 27 members of the European Union. It has the same rights as all other European countries to speak out for the right, freedom and values that you value in Europe,” he said Tsering.

“In the near future there will be a situation that we will have to survive. But we believe in peace, His Holiness believes in peace and truth. Because in the end the truth will have to resist and our peaceful resistance will win,” Frasi said.

“The fact that the Tibetan government in exile is at such a high level in the Estonian parliament is quite rare in Europe. European countries tend not to do so in light of the unified Chinese policy and for fear of China’s reaction. Estonia is a ‘excellent exception in this sense,’ said Raid.
