“We were more than 100 points away from Toyota in the team standings (116 points – AK). Collectively we missed a lot of opportunities. If you count the points lost, the total becomes 200,” Abiteboul told DirtFish.
“Yes, things like this can always be exaggerated, because it’s about olek. Surely Toyota is making similar calculations: what would have happened if Sebastien Ogier had not crashed in Sardinia or Kalle Rovanperä in Finland? But yes, we could have earned 200 more points,” he added.
In addition to his efforts to make the Hyundai Rally1 car faster and more durable, Abiteboul has attracted a representative lineup to the team. Thierry Neuville and Ott Tänak participate in all rallies and the third car is shared by Esapekka Lappi, Dani Sordo and Andreas Mikkelsen.
