The king is back! The trump ace taken from Guardiola’s deck turned defeat into a sweet victory – Soccernet.ee

Premier League champions Manchester City returned from a brief break in the league with a 3-2 win at Newcastle United. The meeting was decided by the maestro who recently returned from the festival.

The match started in a very unhappy way for the Manchester club who had to make a forced substitution. The winger was not injured, but Ederson was, who collided with teammate Kyle Walker in the second minute. In the same situation, Sean Longstaff brought the ball into the goal from Alexander Isaku’s cross, but the side judge recorded an offside, which was later confirmed by VAR.

After the medical break, the Brazilian goalkeeper gave the ball away to his opponents in his penalty area, but fortunately for Ederson nothing dangerous happened from there. A minute later, City sat down on the grass with his front glove and made it clear that he would not continue his match. He was replaced by Stefan Ortega.

In the 26th minute, City took the lead when Jeremy Doku led the move for Walker on the right wing and found Bernardo Silva with a cross, who gently steered the ball into the back corner with his heel – 0:1. For the Portuguese this success was the sixth in this championship.

With the first goal, the guests’ momentum did not subside, because three minutes later Silva rebounded from the penalty area line and Martin Dubravka deflected the ball against the post. Newcastle were under pressure from City in every way possible.

Like Ederson, Ortega also played with fire, losing the ball to Isak in his penalty area, but luckily for the German nothing serious followed. However, Swedish center forward Isak threatened in the 35th minute when, after a pass from Bruno Guimaraes, he entered City’s penalty area and found the back of the net with a curling shot. 1:1. Isak has scored 10 goals in the Premier League this season.

Newcastle demonstrated two minutes after the first goal that, with a simple and logical solution, the first is usually followed by the second. Anthony Gordon, who ran to the left with the ball, took a step to the center and, like Isak, sent the ball into the right corner for Ortega – 2:1.

The hosts, who had suddenly become stronger, were close to a third goal before the break, when Isak came face to face with Ortega, but the goalkeeper emerged victorious from this confrontation with a save.

At the start of the second half, Dubravka shined with a powerful panther leap to block Julian Alvarez’s free kick onto the crossbar. In the 64th minute, Alvarez’s bomb shot starts from the penalty area line, but the ball doesn’t reach its destination due to the Slovakian goalkeeper.

However, City manager Pep Guardiola had ace Kevin De Bruyne in his deck of cards, who was injured in the opening round of the Premier League in August, but the Belgian’s break is now over. De Bruyne, who replaced Silva, hit the opponent’s wall with a free kick, and in the next situation Alvarez, who was free on the spot, shot the ball into the goal.

It took just four minutes for the Belgian ball wizard to find the net for Newcastle. Accepting Rodri’s pass from 35 metres, De Bruyne began running towards goal until launching a low shot which went past Dubravka – 2:2. In honor of the modern ruler of the Premier League, St. City fans tune in at James’ Park.

After City’s equalizer, the blue shirts begin to look for the winning goal. All it took was De Bruyne’s magical pass to Oscar Bobbi, who raced into Newcastle’s penalty area and past Dubravka, and the 20-year-old’s debut goal in the first minute of extra time gave City a sweet victory – 3:2!!!

After picking up 43 points from 20 games, City have moved up to second place, with league leaders Liverpool just two points behind them. Newcastle, who finished fourth last year, continue behind Manchester United in the tenth row.

Newcastle United-Manchester City 2:3 (2:1)
35. Alexander Isak, 37. Anthony Gordon – 26. Bernardo Silva, 74. Kevin De Bruyne, 90+1. Oscar Bobb
