The LHV women’s basketball championship returned from the break with four games and the favorites made no mistake

On Wednesday, the Luunja women’s basketball team (8-1) hosted the University of Tartu (4-6) in their Lohkva sports hall and won with 62:59. The home team was up 48-40 in the scoreboard battle and 17-10 in the offensive scoreboard.

The Luunja women’s team’s points were split exactly in half between the starting five and the bench players, while the main burden of the women’s tartan was borne by the starting five, who scored a total of 51 points out of 59.

The most successful winner was Kadri Uiga, who scored 15 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished out 4 assists. Kadi Kals collected 4 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 interceptions. Triin Teppo scored 9 points and 7 rebounds and Maarja Park also scored 9 points.

Triin Juurik, who collected 15 points and 5 rebounds, was the most successful women’s team of the University of Tartu, Viktoria Kisseljova scored 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists, Belinda Lepmets also scored 13 points and collected 8 rebounds and 5 interceptions.

In Thursday’s first game, Rapla Basketball School (5-4) hosted the TSA/Cityteed girls team (6-1) and had to accept a 54:75 defeat. The biggest difference came from turnovers, of which Rapla had 35 and TSA 12. The winners earned a whopping 33 points from their opponents’ turnovers (Rapla only 4).

Kätlin Kangur contributed 18 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 7 interceptions as the most successful player on the TSA/Citytee women’s team. Laura Liisa Grünmann added 12 points, Janne Pulk brought 12 points, 8 rebounds and 3 steals, Maarja Grünmann scored 11 points and 5 steals and Sofia Kosareva also scored 11 points and made 4 steals.

On the side of Rapla Basketball School, Lisandra Vetesina scored 11 points and 6 rebounds, Kadri Kruusimägi also scored 11 points and Reili Naaritsa scored 9 points and 5 rebounds.

In Thursday’s second game, the OSK/Vesiir women’s basketball team (4-5) earned a win at home, defeating the TalTech BS/Siili PK/TSK women’s team (0-9) 66:51. OSK won the board battle 45-35 (offensive boards 19-9) and committed significantly fewer turnovers (13-25).

On the winning side, Kerli Haas led with 25 points, 6 rebounds and 3 interceptions, Janett Perv added 19 points and Kadri Pärnpuu had 9 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks.

In the TalTech BS/Siili PK/TSK team, Hanna Maria Sibul scored 19 points and 5 rebounds, Diana Svedovskaja scored 9 points and 5 assists, Elen Meier scored 8 points and Lisa Sirgi scored 7 points and 8 rebounds.

The last match of the week took place in Pärnu, where league leaders Audentes/Tallinn University (10-0) achieved another victory by beating Pärnu Sports School (2-7) 82:62. Audentes demonstrated his superiority in the board battle, won 44-29 (16-7 offensive board).

Trine Kasemägi, who scored 28 points and 10 rebounds, was the top scorer for Audentes, who fielded only seven players, Ellen Anett Põldmaa collected 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 interceptions, Eliise Pajumets brought 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists, and Birgit Piiburi had 13 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists.

Jessica Ristimets was the most productive on the Pärnu Sports School side, scoring 24 points. Katariina Rõngelep collected 12 points and 5 rebounds, while Hiie Vent added 9 points and 3 interceptions.

Playing in the second division of the Latvian women’s basketball championship, Audentes Sports Gymnasium (2-4) will play their next match on January 20, when they will play against the women’s team BJBS Riga/Juniores-2 (3-4).
