The Moscow court has extended the pre-trial detention of the former spy Girkin

According to Girkin’s lawyer, Aleksandr Molokhov, Girkin’s trial will begin on December 14. He added that this will happen regardless of the closed-door protests by Girkin and his team.

According to Russian authorities, the case is confidential.

If convicted, Girkin faces up to five years in prison.

Girkin, a former Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) officer, sharply criticized Putin for his handling of the invasion of Ukraine and accused him of “cowardly mediocrity” in online statements.

He also criticized Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and accused both the minister and the president of “incompetence”. According to him, full mobilization is necessary to achieve Russian victory.

Previously, Girkin announced that he intends to participate in the presidential elections in March next year.
