Watery eyes have been bothering Mõmmi the kitten for a long time, but now the condition has gotten even worse. The animal’s eyelid is visibly swollen and there is severe redness. If initially only one eye was a concern, now both eyes are too much for Mõmmi.
“Although the vet immediately referred Mõmmi to eye drops, it is also necessary to make a respiratory panel in a German laboratory,” explains Pesaleidja’s medical director, Kelli Samberk. “This way we can find out if any harmful virus has entered the animal’s body, for example chlamydia, mycoplasma, bordetella, etc.” If it is indeed a virus, the kitten will need a course of antibiotics for about a month to get rid of the pesky bully.
“You can’t force a course of treatment on an animal just in case, so to speak, because each course of treatment has its own consequences and side effects,” Kelli says. “Therefore, they should only be used if necessary.”
