The Norwegian biathlon star who made a splash in the hotel has received a severe punishment

The jury of the stage of the MK series and the International Biathlon Federation IBU decided to punish the 26-year-old Läreid due to the incident that occurred on Friday in the Norwegian team hotel. Before the sprint race, Lägreid was doing so-called dry training indoors, but accidentally threw a ball against the wall. Although no one was injured, this was a clear violation of IBU safety requirements. The Swiss police are also investigating the case.

“I feel really bad. Our sport can be life-threatening and all safety requirements must be strictly followed. I have to accept the consequences,” Lägreid told Norway’s national broadcaster.

Per Arne Botnan, sports director of the Norwegian team, explained that since the Norwegian team’s hotel is very close to the stadium, the athletes were given the race number and ammunition in the hotel and not in the stadium area, as usual. Botnan added that after Läreid’s mistake the conclusion was quickly reached that in future all necessary procedures will be carried out at the stadium and not in the hotel.

The men’s joint start of the Lenzerheide MK stage will begin at 3.45pm. Lägreid, who came fourth in Friday’s sprint and third in yesterday’s pursuit, occupies third place in the overall MK series standings with 301 points.
