The obstruction in the Riigikogu appears to have ceased for now

The Isamaa group withdraws the investigations presented in the spring. Lauri Laats, vice-president of the Central Party faction, said that his faction has already withdrawn the drafts in a spirit of obstructionism, and the same will be done with the investigations.

“We will not accept obstruction. And considering the experience we have gained, late-night sessions will lead nowhere,” Laats said.

The president of the EKRE faction, Martin Helme, said that he was awaiting the Supreme Court’s decision and that future activities would depend on it. The government will also decide in the near future how to overcome the obstructionism brought by EKRE. Helme said that if he does not get justice from the court, it means that the opposition cannot exploit part of the filibuster, that is, present numerous amendments.

Jürgen Ligi, a member of the Reform Party, said the opposition had set a precedent by suspending the work of the Riigikogu and that they should admit their mistake. He added that he is not sure whether the work of Parliament will be carried out well in the future.
