The United States struck five areas of Yemen overnight

According to Houthi media’s Sanaa-Saba news agency, five areas were hit by the US attack: the governorates of Hodeida, Taiz, Dhamar, Bayda and Saada, ABC News reports.

US Central Command (CENTCOM) wrote in a post addressed to Xi overnight that the attack targeted 14 Iran-backed Houthi missiles that were loaded to hit Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen and made part of an ongoing multinational effort to protect freedom of navigation. and prevent attacks on U.S. and partner shipping in the Red Sea.

“These missiles posed an immediate threat to U.S. merchant shipping and naval vessels in the area and could have been launched at any time, prompting U.S. forces to exercise their inherent right and duty to defend themselves. These attacks, together with other measures we have taken, will reduce the Houthis’ ability to continue their irresponsible attacks on commercial and international shipping in the Red Sea, Bab-el-Mandeb Strait and the Gulf of Aden,” the post reads. . .

“Iran-backed Houthi terrorist activities continue to threaten international navies and disrupt trade routes in the southern Red Sea and adjacent waterways,” said CENTCOM Commander General Michael Erik Kurilla.

A Houthi media channel attributed the attack to the United States and Britain. So far only the United States was aware of the attack.

Yesterday, Wednesday, CENTCOM confirmed a drone strike from a Houthi-controlled area of Yemen against an American-flagged aircraft carrier in the Gulf of Aden. There were no reports of injuries.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on Wednesday that the United States will once again declare the Houthis a terrorist organization. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this step allows the United States to more effectively limit the group’s access to financial support.

Blinken also made clear that the decision could be reversed if the Houthis stopped their attack on shipping traffic.

“Once the Houthis stop their attacks in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, the United States will reevaluate this designation,” he said.
